Buy or Sell – Jim Carey’s Bizarre Red Carpet Interview

Buy or Sell?

Jim Carey made headlines this weekend by giving a bizarre interview at the Harper’s Bazaar Icon’s party red carpet. E! News reporter Catt Sadler tried her best, but Carey wasn’t going to make it easy on her and give the standard canned answers.

Highlights from the awkward interview include:

“There’s no meaning to any of this, I just wanted to find the most meaningless thing that I could come to and join, and here I am. You’ve got to admit, this is completely meaningless.”

“Celebrating icons? Oh boy, that is just the lowest aiming possibility that we could come up with. Icons. Do you believe in icons? I believe in personalities. I don’t believe that you exist but there is a wonderful fragrance in the air.”

“I don’t believe in icons. I don’t believe in personalities. I believe that peace lies beyond personality, beyond invention and disguise. I believe we’re a field of energy dancing for itself. And I don’t care.”

“I didn’t get dressed up, there is no me. There are just things happening… Here’s the thing, it’s not our world. We don’t matter, there’s the good news.”

Carey actually makes a few interesting points and it’s entertaining. On the flip side, if it’s so meaningless then why show up and be part of it? It’s also not cool to put the reporter in that situation. I get that he’s being honest and perhaps trying to be funny, but she has a job to do as well and humiliating her isn’t a good look.

Some are worried that known depressive Carey is in a bad mental state and we should be concerned.

What are your thoughts on this?

Poppy’s Take: Sell. I hope Carey isn’t spiraling into something bad and was just trying to be funny. Either way, he choose this profession and to attend the ‘meaningless’ party so it may not be the best avenue to share deep philosophies.
